Xingquan Canal

Basic information

Introduction
The Xingquan Canal, originally constructed in 1897, was initially known as "Bazaizhuang Canal." During the Japanese colonial period, the "Shirakawa Irrigation Cooperatives" was established to manage it, making it one of the pioneering water conservancy projects in the Huadong Valley. Drawing water from the Malangou River, it irrigates areas in Ruisui Township (including Fuyuan, Fumin, and Fuxing Villages) and Guangfu Township (Dafu and Dafeng Villages).
This century-old canal continues to flow unimpeded. In recent years, the East Coast National Scenic Area Headquarters has enhanced its surroundings by planting about 200 golden trumpet trees along a 300-meter stretch of the canal path between Provincial Highway 9 and Danongdafu Forest Park. Every March, the blooming yellow flowers reflect off the canal's surface, creating the illusion of a golden river. This spectacular sight attracts numerous visitors, making it a popular tourist attraction in Hualien.
